Andrea Michalek

I started my career as a software developer, became a CTO, then co-founded and led Plum Analytics as CEO before serving as VP of Research Metrics at Elsevier.

Along the way, I helped build products, companies, and entirely new categories. I learned how organizations scale, how leaders become bottlenecks, and why innovation stalls even inside successful teams.

Then my own life changed.

A traumatic brain injury that was supposed to resolve in days took years to recover from. It forced me to rethink how I worked, how I measured progress, and what sustainable leadership actually looks like.

That experience did not replace what I had learned as an executive. It deepened it.

Today I advise leaders navigating growth, complexity, and change while continuing to put the Beyond Incremental framework to work in my own life. Sometimes that looks like building a new community. Sometimes it means speaking, writing, or taking on unfamiliar challenges. The contexts have changed. The leadership questions haven't.

This newsletter is where I share what survives contact with reality.
